Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
Automatic renewal charges always use the payment method stored for the subscription in Microsoft’s billing system. Community forums and this answer cannot change payment methods or which card is charged.
To ensure the correct card is used for Microsoft 365 renewal and to fix the mismatch between the email and the billing section:
- Verify the active subscription and renewal status
- Go to the Subscriptions page.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account used for the Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Under Microsoft 365, confirm:
- The subscription is active.
- Auto-renew is turned on.
- Confirm or correct the payment method for the subscription
- Go to the Payment options page.
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account.
- Check for any errors on the payment method and update details if needed (expiry date, etc.).
- Make sure the correct card is associated with the Microsoft 365 subscription on the Subscriptions page; if another card is still tied to auto-renew, change it there.
- If emails still show the wrong card or charges go to the wrong card
- This may indicate a billing profile or subscription mapping issue that must be corrected by Microsoft Support.
- Go to Contact Microsoft Support or use the support/contact options from the Subscriptions page and request:
- Review of which card is set as the payment method for the Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Correction so that renewal uses the card shown in the billing section of the account profile.
If there are any incorrect or duplicate charges as a result of the wrong card being used, the Billing or Customer Service team can review refund eligibility using the standard subscription refund process.
