Word is asking me to renew after I've purchased Office Home 2024

Microsoft Word is asking me to renew after I've purchased and redeemed Office Home 2024 on my account. Can someone please help me with this?

Where do you see the suggestion to renew? If it is in your account at https://account.microsoft.com, then it is an offer (basically an ad) from Microsoft wanting you to subscribe, and these offers are especially frequent if you have subscribed in the past.

On the other hand, if the Office apps report that they are unlicensed, that issue must be dealt with, of course. What do you see when you look at File > Account in Word, for example? Do you see any signs that Office is unlicensed?

Open Word, then at the top right of Word, log out of Office.

Restart (not shut down) your PC and log back into Office, is your Office 2024 licence then recognised correctly?

If not, what version of Office did you purchase, is that Office Home 2024, Office Pro Plus 2024... etc, and where did you purchase the Office licence from.

Word is still using the old Microsoft 365 subscription on the device. Office Home 2024 is redeemed on the account, but the apps are picking up the previous subscription status, which is why they show a renew message.

Follow these steps on the Windows device:

1. Confirm Office Home 2024 is on the account
   1. Close all Office apps.
   2. Go to the Microsoft dashboard Services & Subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services.
   3. Sign in with the same Microsoft account used to redeem Office Home 2024.
   4. Verify that Microsoft Office Home 2024 appears under Products you've purchased. This confirms the license is correctly linked to the account.
2. Make sure the old Microsoft 365 subscription is not the active one
   1. On the same Services & Subscriptions page, check under Microsoft 365 whether any subscription is expired, suspended, or canceled.
   2. If there is an expired Microsoft 365 subscription, ignore any prompts to renew it; the goal is to use Office Home 2024 instead.
3. Sign out of Office in the apps and sign back in with the correct account
   1. Open Word.
   2. Go to File > Account.
   3. Under User Information, choose Sign out for all listed accounts.
   4. Close Word.
   5. Reopen Word and, when prompted to sign in, use the same Microsoft account that shows Microsoft Office Home 2024 on the Services & Subscriptions page.
   6. In File > Account, confirm the product name shows the non‑subscription license (for example, Office Home 2024) and that there is no banner asking to renew.
4. If a subscription notice still appears
   1. In Word, if a banner still appears asking to buy, renew, or reactivate Microsoft 365, follow the in‑app option to Update license or similar, then sign in again with the account that owns Office Home 2024.
   2. If the banner continues after that, uninstall Office from Settings > Apps > Installed apps, restart the PC, then reinstall Office from the Microsoft Office Home 2024 entry on the Services & Subscriptions page and sign in with the same account during activation.

These steps ensure Word stops using the old Microsoft 365 subscription and instead activates against the Office Home 2024 license already redeemed on the account.
