Transfer certification from company id to pesonal id

I am leaving my current company, and one of my certifications is currently linked to my company ID. My learn.microsoft.com profile has both my personal and company IDs added. If I remove my company ID from the profile now, will the certification associated with it be lost? If so, what is the process to transfer that certification to my personal ID?

No, the Learn profile and its certification will remain and will be linked to your personal account

Removing the company (work/school) login from the Learn profile does not remove the certifications or other learning data that are already in that profile. Certifications are stored in the single Learn profile; login accounts are only different ways to sign in to that same profile.

Key points from the Learn profile behavior:

    1. A Learn profile can have multiple login accounts (personal and work/school) attached.
    2. When profiles are merged (for example, by adding another login that has its own Learn profile), all learning progress and credentials are combined into a single profile and cannot be undone.
    3. After the merge, removing one of the login accounts only removes that sign-in method; the merged certifications and progress remain in the profile.

    In the described situation:

    • If the company ID and personal ID are already added under the same Learn profile (and the certification is visible there), that certification is already associated with that single profile.
    • Removing the company login from Login account management → Linked accounts → Remove will not delete the certification; it only prevents signing in with that company account in the future.

Process to ensure the certification is on the personal ID before leaving the company:

    1. Sign in to Microsoft Learn using the account that currently shows the certification.
    2. Go to profile settings and confirm that the personal Microsoft account is added as a login account.
    3. If the certification is visible when signed in with the personal account, nothing more is required; the certification is already associated with that profile.
    4. After confirming, the company login can be safely removed from the profile. The certification will remain accessible via the personal account.

If the certification appears only under a separate Learn profile tied to the company ID and not under the personal profile, use the profile merge mechanism:

    1. Choose which Learn profile should be the final one (typically the personal account profile).
    2. Sign in to that profile.
    3. In login account management, select Add login account and add the company account.
    4. If that company account is associated with another Learn profile, this will trigger a profile merge; all certifications and learning progress from the company profile will be merged into the signed-in (personal) profile.
    5. After the merge completes, the certifications will be in the personal profile. The company login can then be removed if desired.

Note: Merging profiles is permanent and cannot be undone. Ensure that the personal Learn profile is the one intended to keep long term before triggering the merge.
