Hi all,

I only had one subscription in Azure, and I disabled it on February 14, 2026, but I have just received a bill for $24.05. Could someone please explain where this charge came from and how I can avoid being charged again?

Thanks

P.S. I’ve just deleted my subscription.

The $24.05 charge is most likely for Azure usage that occurred before the subscription was disabled and falls into the previous billing period. Azure bills after the end of each billing period, so even if a subscription is disabled on February 14, charges already accrued up to that date (or up to the end of the last billing cycle) are still invoiced.

Key points based on Azure billing behavior:

    1. Billing is in arrears
Azure pay-as-you-go and similar individual subscriptions are billed at the end of the invoice period, not in advance. Usage that happened before you disabled the subscription will appear on the next invoice, even if the subscription is now disabled or deleted.
    2. Disabling or canceling stops new usage, not existing charges
Disabling/canceling a subscription prevents future usage from accruing new charges, but it does not remove charges already incurred. Those charges are still due and will generate an invoice.
    3. How to see exactly what the $24.05 is for
To confirm the source of the charge and avoid surprises in the future, review the detailed usage for the relevant billing period:
      1. Sign in to the Azure portal.
      2. Search for Subscriptions and select the (now disabled) subscription.
      3. Under Billing, select Invoices.
      4. Find the invoice that totals $24.05 and select the download icon.
      5. In Download Usage + Charges, select Download CSV and Download invoice.
      6. Open the CSV and sum the Cost column to see which services and dates contributed to the $24.05.
    4. How to avoid being charged again
      • If the subscription is already canceled/deleted and there are no remaining resources or active subscriptions, there should be no further usage-based charges going forward.
      • Check for any other active subscriptions under your account in Subscriptions to ensure there isn’t another subscription generating costs.
      • For future subscriptions, regularly monitor costs using Cost Management and review invoices as described above.

If you believe the $24.05 does not match your actual usage after reviewing the invoice and usage CSV, the next step is to contact Azure support from the Azure portal and open a billing support request.
