Copilot and MSN/Edge experiences can be adjusted, but they cannot be configured for a particular political viewpoint. What can be done is to reduce personalization, turn off use of your data for tailoring content, and limit how much browsing context and history Copilot and MSN use.
To reduce or remove personalized ads and interests tied to a Microsoft account:
- Go to your Ad Settings.
- Remove interests that are being used to tailor ads.
- Turn off personalized ads if desired. Ads will still appear, but they will be less tailored to inferred interests.
To reduce personalization and context use in Copilot in Microsoft Edge:
- In Edge, open the sidebar, select the More menu (…) → Settings → Privacy.
- Turn off Context clues to prevent Copilot from using the current webpage, browser history, or browser preferences to shape responses.
- Turn off Personalization and memory to prevent Copilot from using previous conversations, Bing/MSN activity, or inferred interests.
To control how Copilot in Edge uses browsing context and stored data:
- In Edge, go to Settings → Copilot and sidebar → Copilot.
- Toggle off Allow Copilot to read context clues on the web if not wanting page content used to ground responses.
- For page-context questions (like page summarization), note that Edge and Copilot do not store or train on the page context used for grounding.
To manage stored Copilot conversation history:
- Visit the Privacy Dashboard at the link provided in the Edge Copilot documentation.
- Go to Browsing and search → Copilot activity history → Clear all to delete stored Copilot queries and responses associated with the Microsoft account.
If content surfaced in Copilot responses or MSN feels biased or inappropriate, it can be reported so it can be reviewed and used to improve safeguards:
- In Copilot (web, mobile, or app), use Give feedback in Settings or the flag icon below each response.
- On MSN pages, use the Feedback link at the bottom of the page to report concerns about the feed or moderation.
These steps limit personalization and context use, clear stored activity, and provide a direct channel to report problematic content, but they do not allow forcing a specific political balance in news or responses.
