The device is currently running Windows 11 Home, but the Microsoft account device list still shows it as Windows 11 Pro. The edition shown in Settings/System (and in msinfo32) is the one that actually matters for activation; the portal view can be out of date if the PC was reinstalled or the edition was changed.
If activation is failing or the edition/license is mismatched, use the built‑in activation tools to correct it:
- Open Start > Settings > System > Activation.
- Check the edition shown there:
- If the device has a digital license for Windows 11 Home but Pro is installed, reinstall Windows 11 Home using the media creation tool and skip entering a key during setup. Windows will activate automatically with the Home digital license.
- If the device has a digital license for Windows 11 Pro but Home is installed, run the Activation troubleshooter and choose Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro, then Start upgrade. This upgrades Home to Pro and activates it with the Pro digital license.
- If Windows shows that a license exists but is not activated, in Activation select Troubleshoot, then choose Activate Windows and confirm.
- If no valid license is found (errors such as 0x803F7001 or 0x800704CF), select Change product key and enter a valid 25‑character key for the edition installed, or choose Go to Microsoft Store to purchase a matching digital license.
Once the installed edition matches the license (Home with Home key/license, or Pro with Pro key/license) and activation succeeds, the Microsoft account device list will eventually update to show the correct edition.
