Office Home 2024 can only be transferred and reinstalled if it is a legitimate, one-time-purchase retail license that is correctly bound to a personal Microsoft account. There are two separate issues in this scenario:
- Why Office 2024 does not appear under Services & subscriptions
- Why the Groupon-purchased Office cannot be used on a Windows 11 Home device in S mode
1. Office 2024 not showing under “My subscriptions”
For a genuine Office Home 2024 one-time purchase, the product is listed under Services & subscriptions for the Microsoft account used to redeem/activate it. If it does not appear there, the most common reasons are:
- The product key was redeemed under a different Microsoft account.
- The product is not a standard retail Home & Student/Home & Business/Professional license, but a volume or otherwise non-retail license that does not bind to a personal Microsoft account.
Legitimate consumer one-time-purchase editions that do bind to an account are listed in the documentation as:
- Office Home & Student
- Office Home & Business
- Office Professional
If the Groupon purchase is an “Office 2024 Professional Plus” or similar “Plus”/volume edition, it is not a consumer retail product. Moderator guidance indicates such “Plus”/volume licenses sold via Groupon and similar channels are often illegal or non-compliant and can expire or stop working because they require organization validation.
In that case, it will not appear under Services & subscriptions, and it cannot be managed or transferred like a normal retail Office Home 2024 license.
2. Using Office on Windows 11 Home in S mode
Windows 11 Home in S mode only allows apps from Microsoft Store. To install a traditional desktop Office installer (downloaded setup/ISO), S mode must be switched off. The S mode FAQ states that to install apps that are not in Microsoft Store, switching out of S mode permanently is required. Once switched out, S mode cannot be turned back on.
Therefore:
- As long as the Windows 11 Home device remains in S mode, a standard downloaded Office 2024 installer cannot be used.
- To install any non–Microsoft Store Office package (including Groupon-provided installers), S mode must be disabled via Settings > System > Activation > Switch to Windows 11 Pro > Go to the Store > Switch out of S mode (or the equivalent option shown), then use the downloaded installer.
3. Can Office 2024 be transferred from Windows 11 Pro to Windows 11 Home?
Transfer is only supported for legitimate retail one-time-purchase licenses (for example, Office Home & Student, Home & Business, or Professional) and must follow the license terms:
- The license is tied to a Microsoft account and one computer at a time.
- To move it, it must be installed on the new device and activated (often by phone if activation limits are hit), and then uninstalled from the original device.
However, even if the license is transferable, the Windows 11 Home target device is in S mode. Because S mode blocks non–Microsoft Store desktop installers, Office cannot be installed there unless S mode is switched off. The S mode FAQ confirms switching out of S mode is one-way.
So in practice:
- If the Groupon “Office 2024” is a volume/“Plus” license, it is not a supported consumer license and cannot be properly transferred via Services & subscriptions.
- Even a valid transferable retail Office Home 2024 cannot be installed on the Windows 11 Home device while it remains in S mode.
To proceed safely:
- Verify the exact product name. If it includes “Professional Plus” or similar, contact the seller for a refund; such keys are not intended for individual resale and can expire.
- If a genuine retail Office Home 2024 license exists under a Microsoft account, it can be moved to another non–S mode Windows device following the standard transfer terms, but the Windows 11 Home device would first need to be switched out of S mode to install it.
