How do I get the product key for the windows 10/11 pro upgrade I purchased from the Microsoft?

I purchased the upgrade on a previous laptop, and now I have a new one and want to use windows 11 pro instead of home so I can use Bitlocker but I can't find the license key anywhere. Not in my email, on my Microsoft account or in my profile in the Microsoft store, even though in my order history it clearly shows that I purchased the upgrade. Please help!

If you got used the Store an purchased the Home to Pro upgrade at the reduced price, there is no product key. Your account serves as the product key.

Disconnect from the internet and enter the generic Pro key VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T and follow the instructions. Once the upgrade to Pro edition is complete then restart and connect back online.

You may find Pro activates automatically and if not use the Activation troubleshooter to transfer the Pro licence to the new computer.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

To help narrow down the issue:

    1. Was the old laptop still working, or is it no longer accessible?
    2. In your Microsoft account Devices page, do you still see the old laptop listed?
    3. On the new PC, does Activation show Windows 11 Home activated right now?

You normally will not receive a product key when you upgrade to Windows Pro through the Microsoft Store. The upgrade uses a digital license linked to your Microsoft account and the device.

    A few things to check.

    • On the old laptop, go to Settings > System > Activation.
    • Does it show Windows 10/11 Pro activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account?

On the new laptop, sign in with the same Microsoft account you used when you bought the upgrade.

    • Then go to Settings > System > Activation > Troubleshoot.
    • Choose "I changed hardware on this device recently" and see if your old device appears. You may be able to transfer the license.

Also note: upgrades purchased from the Microsoft Store are often tied to the original device, so they may not always transfer to a new PC.
