My Microsoft 365 Personal acct

I got a notice when I was online that I was running out of storage and I needed additional storage and I added $19.99 on February 11th to my Chase account: 02/11 MICROSOFT*STORE MICROSOFT.COM WA 22.05 which added a 2nd account.

I figured out that this changed my Microsoft 365 Personal Subscription - which apps aren't working now.

The February 11th account was not needed. How can we get this fixed and make my account whole again?

The extra charge most likely added storage or a different consumer subscription, but did not change or repair the existing Microsoft 365 Personal subscription. To restore full app functionality and correct the account setup, follow these steps in order:

    1. Verify which subscriptions are active
      1. Go to the Services & subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services
      2. Sign in with the Microsoft account that is (and should be) associated with Microsoft 365 Personal.
      3. Under Microsoft 365, confirm:
        • Which subscription is Microsoft 365 Personal (and its renewal/expiry date).
        • Whether there is an additional storage or other Microsoft 365 subscription created around February 11.
    2. Confirm the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription is active
      1. In the same Services & subscriptions page, check that Microsoft 365 Personal is not expired or suspended.
      2. If it shows as expired or suspended, renew it using the guidance in How to renew your Microsoft 365 subscription.
      3. After renewal, close all Office apps and reopen (for example, Word) to see if the apps work again.
    3. Check payment status and correct any billing issues
      1. Go to the Payment options page: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments
      2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account.
      3. If the payment method shows an error (expired card, declined, etc.), update it.
      4. Close all Office apps and restart one of them to see if the subscription warning disappears.
    4. Make sure the correct account is signed in to Office apps
      1. In Word/Excel/PowerPoint on the desktop, go to File → Account.
      2. Under User Information, sign out of all accounts.
      3. Sign back in using the Microsoft account that shows the active Microsoft 365 Personal subscription on the Services & subscriptions page.
      4. Confirm that the product information shows Microsoft 365 and that the “Account Notice” or “Unlicensed Product” messages are gone.
    5. Address the extra February 11 subscription or storage purchase
      • If the February 11 purchase created a second subscription or storage plan that is not needed, use the Manage options next to that item on the Services & subscriptions page to:
        • Turn off recurring billing, or
        • Cancel that subscription if eligible under Microsoft’s terms.
      • This will not automatically move or merge benefits between accounts; it only stops future charges on the unneeded plan.
    6. If Office apps still show subscription errors
      • If a yellow bar appears with “ACCOUNT NOTICE. We've run into a problem with your Microsoft 365 subscription and need your help to fix it.”, this is usually a payment or subscription-status issue. After confirming the subscription is active and payment info is correct, restart the apps again.
      • If the problem persists after the above steps, contact Microsoft support from the account portal so an agent can:
        • Review the February 11 charge,
        • Confirm which subscription is tied to which account, and
        • Adjust or refund the unneeded subscription where policy allows.

This sequence will ensure the Microsoft 365 Personal subscription is active on the correct account and that any unnecessary second subscription or storage purchase is cancelled going forward.
