Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

It’s possible that the hackers deleted all of the emails from your Inbox folder.

Have you checked whether the emails are available in the Deleted Items folder instead, or in the Recoverable Items section of that folder?

If there are no emails in that folder, unfortunately, your emails have been permanently deleted and there is no way to recover it.

Alternatively, sign in with your Microsoft account here to see if there are any unusual activity in your Microsoft account -

    https://account.live.com/Activity

If you see any unusual signs in,

    1. Reset your Microsoft account password.

Open an InPrivate/Incognito browser window and use the following link to reset your password: https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx

    2. Sign out of your account from all sessions.

Once the password reset is successful, sign in with your account here: https://account.live.com/proofs/Manage

Scroll down until you find Sign out everywhere. Select Sign out everywhere.

    3. Enable two-step verification.

On the Security settings page, under Additional security, turn on Two-step verification. Make sure you have at least three security verification methods active.

After you have enabled these security protections, sign out of your account in the Outlook app and sign back in with your new password.

If the Outlook.com account was hacked and now the inbox looks empty, there are two things to do in parallel: recover and secure the account, and check where the mail has gone.

    1. Start account recovery for a hacked account
    • Use the official Sign-in Helper for hacked or compromised Microsoft accounts: Start.
    • The helper will ask for the email address or phone number and then guide through self-help or connect to an agent, as described in How to recover a hacked or compromised Microsoft account.
    1. Check if mail is being hidden or moved Once signed back in to Outlook.com (web):
    • Check Junk Email
      • Go to the Junk Email folder and look for missing messages.
      • If legitimate messages are there, select them and choose Not junk > Not junk to move them back to Inbox.
    • Check Filter settings
      • At the top of the message list, select Filter and choose All so no filter hides messages.
    • Check Rules
      • Go to Outlook.com Rules settings and look for any rules that move or delete messages.
      • Delete or edit any suspicious rules that might be moving mail out of the inbox.
    • Check Archive
      • Open the Archive folder and see if messages were moved there.
      • Select any message and choose Move to > Inbox to restore it.
    • Check Junk Email settings and Other tab
      • Review Junk Email settings and the Other tab (if Focused Inbox is enabled) to ensure messages are not being misclassified.
    1. Check for signs of ongoing compromise
    • Review recent sign-in activity at the Recent activity page: https://account.live.com/Activity to see unusual sign-ins or devices.
    • If anything looks suspicious, follow the guidance in What is the Recent activity page? to secure or close the account.
    1. If the account or mailbox was closed for inactivity or storage
    • If Outlook.com was not signed into for at least one year, the mailbox and all email may have been deleted per the Microsoft Services Agreement.
    • If the Microsoft account itself was inactive for two years, the account may have been closed. In that case, email cannot be recovered.
    1. If the account is blocked
    • If Outlook.com is temporarily blocked due to unusual activity, use the Sign-in Helper from Unblock my Outlook.com account to unblock it and then repeat the checks above.

If, after recovery and these checks, messages are still missing and not in Junk, Archive, or other folders, and the mailbox was not closed for inactivity, use the Sign-in Helper and Outlook.com support options for further assistance.
