Hello @Yabuki- Reyes, Ukari,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A Forum. I’d be happy to help clarify how file storage works between Microsoft Teams and SharePoint.
When files are shared inside a Teams Channel, they are automatically saved to SharePoint. Each channel has its own folder inside the SharePoint site’s Documents library, so anything uploaded there goes directly into SharePoint without any extra steps. This makes Channels the best place for teams to collaborate, especially when you need shared documents to stay organized in one central location.
Files shared through Teams Group Chat or private chats, however, work differently. These files do not go to SharePoint. Instead, they are uploaded to the sender’s OneDrive, in a folder named “Microsoft Teams Chat Files.”. This design is meant for more personal or ad‑hoc file sharing between individuals, rather than team‑wide collaboration.
Because of these differences, if you’re working on projects, shared documents, or anything that needs to be stored and managed by your organization, it’s generally better to share files in a Teams Channel. For quick, personal exchanges, the Chat option works well, but those files won’t automatically appear in SharePoint.
If you have any questions about how this works or need help deciding the best approach for your workflow, feel free to let me know and I’ll be happy to clarify further.
