    Dear Lyon,Peggy

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand you want to organize your Inbox by creating, renaming, moving, and deleting folders in Classic Outlook for Windows (for home). I am happy to assist you. Have you tried the AI given steps yet? Which account type is this in Classic Outlook: Outlook.com/Hotmail, or IMAP/POP? (Folder behavior can differ for IMAP vs Outlook.com sync.)

    Meanwhile please try:

    Create folders (top-level or subfolders)

    • In Classic Outlook, go to the Folder tab > New Folder, or press Ctrl+Shift+E.
    • Name the folder, choose where to place it (for example, under Inbox), and confirm.
    • Alternative: Right‑click Inbox (or any existing folder) > New Folder.

    Move emails into folders

    • Drag and drop messages into the folder (use Ctrl to select multiple).
    • Or select a message > Move (or Move to a different folder) and pick the destination folder.

Move/reorder folders (change where a folder sits)

    • Click and hold the folder name, then drag it to the new location; or right‑click the folder > Move Folder and choose the destination.
    • If you want to return to alphabetical order later: Folder tab > Show All Folders A to Z.

Rename folders (if you don’t see “Rename” in the desktop UI)

    • Rename from the web (then it syncs back to Outlook): sign in to Outlook.com, right‑click the folder > Rename, type the new name, press Enter.
    • Note: default folders like Inbox can’t be renamed.

    Delete folders

    • Right‑click the folder you created > Delete Folder.
    • This moves the folder and everything inside it to Deleted Items.
    • When you empty Deleted Items, the folder/items are permanently erased. Default folders (Inbox, Sent, etc.) can’t be deleted.

Hope the steps help. Please feel free to reply to this thread if any issue pops up. I am happy to assist further. Have a lovely day!
