There have been several reports recently that Word excessively asks users to save documents. No definite solution has been proposed. The problem is documented at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/users-are-prompted-to-save-locally-saved-documents-after-being-idle-with-no-edits-made-524c4e03-d0ae-4de1-ac1c-866fc528f029 .

Note that there are circumstances under which Word will prompt you to save. For example, if the document contains certain fields which have been updated (even if there is no visual difference in the document) you will see a prompt. This is normal.
