Can't Close Personal Outlook account due to error relating it to some organization

I am trying to permanently close my personal Outlook/Microsoft account. However, when I follow the closure steps, the system tells me I must leave a work organization first. This is confusing because my account was only ever used with a Microsoft 365 Personal subscription, and I do not have a work or school account. When I attempt to sign in to the organization portal, I receive the error message: "You can't sign in here with a personal account. Use your work or school account instead." This suggests my personal account has been incorrectly associated with an organization, preventing me from completing the closure process.

Could you please help so that I can proceed with closing it permanently?

Hi! What this normally means is that your personal Microsoft account is still linked to a work/school organization as a guest or leftover tenant association, so the account closure process cannot finish until that link is removed.

Check whether the account appears under any organization in the My Account portal by following the steps here:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-billing/manage-organizations-for-a-work-or-school-account-in-the-my-account-portal-a9b65a70-fec5-4a1a-8e00-09f99ebdea17.

If you have ever used Teams Free, also check whether an organization is listed there and leave it if available by following:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/leave-a-work-or-school-organization-in-microsoft-teams-free-72a9a4d7-21b3-489e-8423-e831bc0ece29.

In addition, on any Windows device where this account was used, go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school and disconnect any old organization connection by following: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/manage-user-accounts-in-windows-104dc19f-6430-4b49-6a2b-e4dbd1dcdf32.
