I am trying to sign in to the Azure portal. I have 2FA turned on. I am using a Microsoft account and the Microsoft authentication app on my mobile phone.
When I get to the page asking me to use the Auth app to accept the request I never get the request. I have tried all the things on the More Information page and nothing helped.
If I try using the code instead, when I try to enter the code being displayed on the Auth app it is too long. The field on the website seems to only accept 6 digits, but the auth app is showing 8 digits. It fails of course.
If I go to live.com and log out and then log in, the auth app on the exact same phone receives the request and then the login to live.com works fine.
If I then go right to Azure portal login, it still wants me to 2FA and I never get the request.
It is almost as if the Azure login is somehow trying to use some other app or something.
What do I do?
Have you got a Microsoft personal and Microsoft work account with the same email address? There may be a conflict between the two accounts here.
Yes, that is exactly what is going on. I just came to this conclusion.
I have my personal MS account in the auth app and that is the one that is working. It is my work account with the same email address that isn't in the auth app.
When I try to add that account to the auth app it wants me to approve the request with the auth app which is a catch 22.
I don't see any other method to now log in to this account. What do I do?
Might your work account already be registered to a different device for authentication? You can check by signing in to your work account here: https://myaccount.microsoft.com/device-list
I have no devices set up for the work account.

@Tony Pitman Microsoft Personal and work account with same email can cause issues few times. You can follow any of the steps mentioned here to address this :

Thank you for getting back to me. It sounds like I need to rename my personal account by using an email alias. I could do that except I fall into 2 of the categories that is says could be a problem. I am a member of the Microsoft Developer program and I have Visual Studio and MSDN subscriptions with that account. The thing is I am not sure whether they are with the personal account or the work account. How can I find that out for sure? Is there some way someone at Microsoft can help me change account from one thing to another? Can I move those subscription from my personal to my work account? What else can you suggest?

The alternate account here can be your another email alias.
The problem is that when I click on that link you provided I get a screen that asks for whether I want my personal or work account. When I choose the personal account I am able to log in, but my Azure subscription I need to access is for the work account.
Therefore, when I choose the work account it asks me to authenticate with the auth app and I can't because I haven't added that work account to the auth app.
When I try to add that account to the auth app it requires 2FA, which I can't do because CATCH-22.
I am stuck. What do I do?
@Tony Pitman Apologies for delayed response on this, I checked internally and it seems our subscription team may be able to help you out. Can you raise a support ticket with them, the might be help you with subscription movement between the account.
Can you please get me a direct link to where I can contact the subscription team? I have to admit that the help pages are not always clear on where to go for the right kind of help.
