Other features or issues related to Microsoft Partner Center
The 6-digit code shown on the Xbox console for Dev Mode must be used as part of the Xbox One Developer Mode Activation flow, and it only works when the console is actually in the Dev Mode activation experience.
If going to the activation URL just shows the generic Microsoft account dashboard instead of the Dev Mode activation page, the usual causes are:
- Not starting activation from the console
- On the Xbox, install and open the Dev Mode Activation app from the Microsoft Store.
- Follow the prompts until the console shows the 6-digit activation code.
- While that screen is visible, use a browser on a PC/phone and follow the Xbox One Developer Mode Activation instructions to complete activation for that console.
- Wrong account or sign-in flow
- Make sure the same Microsoft account is used in the browser that is signed in on the Xbox console when showing the 6-digit code.
- If the browser opens the generic Microsoft dashboard, sign out there, then sign back in with the correct account and restart the activation flow from the console.
- Confirming Dev Mode vs Retail Mode
- After activation, press the Home button on the controller:
- If it goes to Dev Home, the console is in Developer Mode.
- If it shows the normal Xbox Home with Gold/Live content, it is in Retail Mode and the Dev Mode Activation app must be used again to switch.
- After activation, press the Home button on the controller:
If the console is already in Developer Mode and the goal is to switch back to Retail Mode so games and apps work normally, open Dev Home on the console and use Leave developer mode.
