Keep getting a request to subscribe to a monthly plan on my new ipad

I have a new iPad and when I tried to edit one of my word and excel documents I keep being asked to subscribe to an monthly plan and I am not able to edit or continue working on the document. Why am I being asked to subscribe to a monthly account when I already have an account and I have never been asked to do this on my old iPad?

There is a screen-size limitation of around 10.1". If your tablet is smaller than that, you don't need a subscription, if it's larger you need to pay.
