Hi @Conklin, Rollin,
Thank you very much for sharing your experience regarding viewing detailed events in the Monthly view in the new Outlook. I appreciate that you took the time to explain your use case especially when you need to plan ahead for both work travel and personal travel, which is a very valid and important scenario.
At the moment, the Monthly view in the new Outlook is designed to provide a high-level overview (mainly event titles and times). Due to the limited space in each day cell, the app will truncate titles and does not show full descriptions/notes directly on the month grid. To see complete details, users need to click on each event to open the reading pane or pop-up. Therefore, there is currently no option to display full details of all events directly in the Monthly view.
Below are the recommended workarounds to help maximize visibility while staying in Month view:
1/ Enable the Reading Pane to view full details without leaving Month view
Please:
- Go to View > Reading Pane > Right (or Bottom).
-
- When you click an event on the month grid, the full details (time, location, notes, participants…) will appear in the pane on the side without switching to Week or Day view.
- Additionally, you can use arrow keys to move through events quickly.
2/ Expand display space so titles are less truncated
Maximize the Outlook window and collapse unused panels (such as To Do/My Day, People, or the mini calendar) to increase the number of visible lines per day in the Monthly view.
3/ Use color categories and/or separate calendars for travel to improve scanning
Please:
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Categories to create categories such as Work Travel and Personal Travel to make events easier to identify at a glance.
- If there are many events, consider keeping travel events on a separate calendar that you can toggle on/off when planning.
4/ Submit Feedback to Microsoft
I agree that having an option to show richer details directly in Monthly view would greatly improve ease of planning. It would reduce the need for repetitive clicking, increase visibility, and ultimately enhance overall productivity and confidence when reviewing both work and personal schedules.
