I have a petrsonal account with a subscription for 365 that i have not used. My son invited me to join the family group of his and I need to know what to do about the subscription I have and get my money back since I have not used it' and then join the group of his

Microsoft’s refund policy states that if you cancel your Microsoft 365 Personal subscription within 30 days of purchase or renewal, you are typically eligible for a full refund. To check your eligibility, you need to cancel the subscription first by signing in at account.microsoft.com/services with the same account used to buy it. When you select Manage, you will see Cancel or Turn off recurring billing; cancellation triggers the refund review.

Once your subscription is canceled, you can accept your son’s Family sharing invitation. Microsoft 365 Family licenses are provided through the family organizer, so you will not need your own subscription after joining.

To stop using the unused Microsoft 365 Personal subscription and then join the family group your son shared, follow two separate steps: cancel/refund your own subscription, then accept his invitation.

1. Cancel your own Microsoft 365 subscription and request a refund
   1. Sign in to the Microsoft account that owns your current Microsoft 365 subscription at https://account.microsoft.com/services.
   2. Locate the Microsoft 365 subscription under Services & subscriptions.
   3. Select Manage for that subscription.
   4. Use the options there to cancel the subscription and, if eligible, request a refund following the guidance in the refund article: see How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription from the context.
   5. If the online flow does not offer a refund or there are billing issues, contact Microsoft Support billing:
      • Go to the support site (Contact – Microsoft Support as described in the context).
      • Sign in with the same Microsoft account.
      • Choose Products & services → Microsoft 365 & Office → Manage my subscription.
      • Use Chat with a support agent or Call me back and explain that the subscription was unused and you want a refund.
2. Accept the invitation to join your son’s Microsoft 365 Family group
   1. Open the email from Microsoft that says you’ve been invited to share a Microsoft 365 Family or Premium subscription.
   2. Select Accept in the email.
   3. On the page that opens, select Join now to join your son’s Microsoft family group.
      • If not signed in, sign in with the Microsoft account that will use the shared subscription.
      • If that account is already in another family group, leave that group first as required in the Family Safety article.
   4. After joining the family group, select Start using Microsoft 365 apps and then Install to download and install the Office apps under the shared subscription.

Once the invitation is accepted and the family group is joined, the benefits (such as Office apps and 1 TB OneDrive) will come from your son’s Microsoft 365 Family or Premium subscription instead of your cancelled one.
