For missing verification codes in an MSN/Outlook mailbox:
- Check that the address is valid for receiving codes
- Verification or security codes are only sent to addresses that are configured as valid sign-in or security info destinations. Make sure the MSN/Outlook address is the primary alias or is added as a way to verify sign-in.
- Check junk and filtering
- Codes and security messages should come from an address ending in
@accountprotection.microsoft.com. Check Junk/Spam and any custom rules or filters that might move or delete messages. - Mark
@accountprotection.microsoft.comas a trusted/safe sender so future codes arrive in the Inbox.
- Codes and security messages should come from an address ending in
- Avoid repeated requests
- Excessive or repetitive requests for codes can cause temporary blocking of code delivery. Wait before requesting again if many attempts were made.
- Check for blocks or unusual activity
- If the account or region has been flagged for unusual or risky activity, code delivery can be delayed or blocked until the system clears the risk. In those cases, waiting a period of time and then trying again is required.
- If still not receiving codes
- Use another verification method (alternate email, phone, or authenticator) if available.
- If no method works and this affects Microsoft account sign-in, use the sign-in helper and support options described in the references below.
For general Microsoft account sign-in and verification issues (including after Windows updates):
- If unable to sign in or verify identity
- Use the sign-in helper tool to diagnose sign-in problems and see available recovery options.
- If verification codes are not arriving to any method, it may be necessary to wait and/or choose a different verification method.
- Contacting Microsoft support
- For technical support with Windows, Outlook, or account issues, go to Contact Microsoft Support, describe the problem, select Get Help, and then choose Contact Support to reach the appropriate support channel (such as chat or callback, depending on region).
- Support agents cannot send verification codes, password reset links, or directly change account security details; they can only guide through the documented recovery and troubleshooting flows.
If the Windows update changed printer behavior, backup apps, or phone connectivity, those issues need to be handled individually with Windows and device support, but they are separate from the email-verification-code delivery problem.
