Windows explorer does not show Word docs

Hot only I cannot view content of pdf files in Windows Explorer panel, I cannot see WOrd docs!!!

Has this system gone mad? or is Microsoft is pushing me to buy Mac?

Help please I can't open every single doc /pdf needed for my work. I have a hand and arm disability. Every click mater, not to mention wasted time!

BTW I tried all solutions proposed by kind people here for pdf files-in vein.

By default, Word 365 stores its documents in OneDrive. You can change that, if you want, or you can have File Explorer show the contents of OneDrive, as you wish.

In recent Windows 11 security updates, File Explorer may limit previews for certain files, such as Word documents and PDFs, when they are identified as coming from the internet (for example, email attachments or downloaded files). This is a protective measure designed to reduce potential security risks.

If you trust the file and its source, you can restore the preview with the following steps:

Right‑click the Word or PDF file
Select Properties
On the General tab, select Unblock
Close the window

Once unblocked, the Preview pane should display the file contents again (you may need to sign out and back in).

Hello,Thank you. It works with pdf but not word. No unlock icon with Word

Also I need to view several docs/pdfs quickly while working so doing it individually takes a lot of time and manu clicks ( I have hand and arm disability).

Moreover, I have to wait for it to work!

I just want to tell Microsoft that with every version /update, they remove good characteristic or make life more difficult-since the old days when they removed the ability to create colour schemes/themes (I can't stand Windows colours) !

Option 3: Use Word for the web as a quick viewer - This can be faster when reviewing multiple files in sequence.

Upload documents to OneDrive

Select files to preview them directly in the browser without opening each one

Thank you very much. Is there no way of seeing the files in my local folders, where they already are?

At this time, there isn’t a supported way to re‑enable File Explorer previews for Word documents in local folders once they’re restricted. While PDFs may still allow previews after being permitted individually, Word files can behave differently and may not display a preview option, even when they are stored locally and trusted. This is due to how File Explorer currently handles Word preview rendering.

For working efficiently with multiple documents and minimizing extra clicks, the most reliable option is to use Word itself as the preview tool. Opening Word once and browsing through files from File > Open allows you to move between documents quickly without repeatedly opening and closing files.

Windows File Explorer can have several different issues with Office documents and previews. Based on the available information, try these specific checks and fixes:

Update Microsoft Office
- There is a known issue where Office document properties and integration with File Explorer do not work correctly until Office is updated.
- Open any Office app (Word, Excel, or PowerPoint).
- Go to File > Account > Update Options > Update Now.
- After the update completes, restart the PC and test File Explorer again.
Repair Office to fix file associations and preview handlers
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Programs and Features.
- Select the Microsoft 365/Office product.
- Choose Change.
- Select Quick Repair, then Repair.
- When finished, restart and try opening/previewing Word and PDF files again from File Explorer.
Re‑associate Office file types if double‑clicking opens the wrong app
- Open Control Panel.
- Select Programs > Default Programs.
- Choose Set a default for a file type or link type.
- For .doc and .docx, set the default to Word.
- For .ppt/.pptx and .xls/.xlsx, set the corresponding Office apps.
