The "Unexpected error" page when trying to schedule an exam is commonly caused by an issue on the scheduling back end, often related to the Pearson VUE side of the integration. In similar cases, this has been linked to the Pearson VUE account being blocked (for example, after multiple failed payment attempts), which prevents the Learn site from completing the scheduling flow and results in a generic error.
To resolve this:
- Verify whether the issue is related to Pearson VUE blocking the account:
- When attempting to schedule, check the browser address bar for an error code like
ERROR_VUE_WIDE_BLOCKin the URL. This code indicates that Pearson VUE has blocked the account, which matches the behavior described in other exam scheduling issues.
- When attempting to schedule, check the browser address bar for an error code like
- If the account is blocked or the error persists:
- Contact Pearson VUE support using the Certification Support entry point at https://aka.ms/CertificationSupport so they can review and, if applicable, remove the block on the Pearson VUE profile.
- After Pearson VUE clears any block, return to the exam’s "Schedule exam" page on Microsoft Learn and repeat the standard registration steps:
- From the certification or exam details page, select Schedule with Pearson VUE.
- Confirm the Microsoft Certification Profile details and proceed through to Pearson VUE to complete scheduling.
If the error continues even after Pearson VUE confirms that the account is not blocked, use the same Certification Support link to open a ticket so the Microsoft certification support team can investigate the Learn-side issue.
