For Microsoft Certification exams, the name on the Microsoft Certification/Learn profile must exactly match the name on the government-issued ID that will be presented at the exam. Initials, extra words, or different ordering that cause a mismatch can lead to being refused at check-in.
- Name matching requirement
- Before scheduling the exam, update the legal name in the Microsoft Certification/Learn profile so that it is identical to the ID (same spelling, initials, and order of names).
- The guidance states: “Confirm your ID is compliant with Pearson VUE’s ID Policy and that the name on your Microsoft Certification profile matches exactly the name on the government issued ID you’ll present when you take the exam.”
- If the ID shows “FirstName FatherNameInitial” and the profile shows “FirstName” as first name and “FatherName” as last name, this is not guaranteed to be accepted because it is not an exact match.
- If there are issues or restrictions updating the legal name in the Learn profile, contact Credentials Support as described in the support article.
- How to change the legal name before registering
- Sign in to the Learn profile.
- Go to profile settings and update the Legal Name so it matches the ID exactly.
- If the system asks to contact Certification Support when changing the legal name, follow that link and file a ticket with the Credentials Support team for assistance.
- ID document type (PAN card)
- The exam program requires “one form of original, valid (unexpired) government issued ID with name, photo, and signature.”
- Acceptable IDs are governed by the Pearson VUE ID Policy and may vary by country and exam delivery type.
- Whether a PAN card is accepted depends on the Pearson VUE ID Policy for the test location. To confirm, review the Pearson VUE ID Policy linked from the Microsoft exam pages.
For any doubt about whether a specific ID (such as a PAN card) is acceptable, and for edge cases in name format (initials vs. full names), check the Pearson VUE ID Policy and, if still unclear, contact Pearson VUE Support or Microsoft Credentials Support before scheduling.
