How to migrate data from Windows 7 Home running on HP Pavilion PC p6267c (which is rapidly failing) to Windows 11 running on HP OmniDesk Desktop PC M02-0127c?

Old machine has start-up issues and frequently crashes. Windows 7 offers "Windows Easy Transfer."

New machine won't send code info to phone (I give it the correct phone number but no code is received). Windows 11 offers a file migration protocol named differently from the old Windows 7 migration tool (I found the name once but can't find it again...).

Both machines are up on same net but can't find each other...

    Hi HI-sailor,

Migrating data from an older Windows 7 PC to a new Windows 11 device can be challenging, especially when the older system is unstable. Some earlier tools, such as Windows Easy Transfer, are no longer supported on modern versions of Windows, and newer migration features are designed for Windows 10 or Windows 11 only.

Given your setup, the most reliable and supported option is to use an external storage device:

1, Copy data from the Windows 7 PC

Connect a USB flash drive or external hard drive to the Windows 7 PC.

    • Open Start > Computer.
    • Copy key folders such as: Documents, Desktop, Pictures, Videos, Music, ...
    • Paste them onto the external drive.
    • Safely eject the drive.

Note: If the PC crashes often, copy one folder at a time and confirm it completes successfully.

2, Transfer data to the Windows 11 PC

Connect the same external drive to the Windows 11 PC.

    • Open File Explorer > This PC.
    • Open the external drive.
    • Copy the files into your preferred folders (Documents, Pictures, etc.). Using an external drive ensures your files are moved safely and quickly, without relying on features that aren’t designed for older systems. Once your data is secured on the new PC, you can take advantage of modern backup options to keep everything protected going forward.

Hi, To copy files from Windows 7 to an external hard drive, plug in the drive, open Computer via the Start menu, and locate your files. Select the desired files/folders, right-click and choose Copy, then open the external drive in a new window, right-click in the empty space, and select Paste. See links to videos on the Internet

Also, the Windows 7 Backup and restore is still on Windows 10 (not sure about Window 11) Control Panel>Small Icons.

I would copy the files rather than moving them save mistakes.
