Looks like this is related to OneDrive sync.

From the screenshot, I can see you're using OneDrive.

Please make sure sync is completed in OneDrive.

    Hi Julie Ruzicka,

The red X icon on your Desktop folder indicates that OneDrive is currently unable to sync one or more items stored there. Since Desktop is backed up by OneDrive, any sync interruption will show this status.

Please try these quick steps to resolve it:

    1, Check OneDrive status

    • Select the OneDrive cloud icon in the taskbar.
    • Review any sync message shown, it will point to the affected file or action needed.

2, Resume syncing (if paused) - Select the OneDrive icon > More > Resume syncing.

    3, Fix the affected file

    • Close any open files on the Desktop.
    • Rename files to remove special characters.
    • Shorten long folder or file names if needed.

4, Restart OneDrive - Open Start, search for OneDrive, and launch it again.

5, Refresh File Explorer - Open Task Manager, right‑click Windows Explorer, and select Restart.

Once the sync issue is resolved, the red X will clear automatically. If it remains, unlinking and re‑linking OneDrive or using the built‑in OneDrive troubleshooting options can help restore normal syncing.

    Hello

On your taskbar near time display, do you see a cloud icon for ONeDrive? If so, is there a red x too? click on it, see if you need to sign in. If you can sign back in, it should address the issue. If not, hover over it, and see if it display any error message, if so, let me know what it says
