Since Verizon email is now managed by AOL, the most effective way to connect is by using a unique App Password rather than your standard login password. 

 1. Generating an AOL App Password 

Since standard passwords are often blocked for security, generating a unique code is the best way to sign in: 

• Please visit the AOL Account Security page. 
• Select Generate App Password (or Manage App Passwords). 
• Choose Outlook Desktop from the dropdown menu and select Generate. 
• Copy the 16-character code that appears. You will enter this in Outlook instead of your usual password. 

2. Adding the Account to Classic Outlook 

• Open Classic Outlook and navigate to File > Add Account. 
• Enter your email address, select Advanced options, and check "Let me set up my account manually." 
• Choose IMAP and enter these server details: 
  1. Incoming: imap.aol.com | Port: 993 | Encryption: SSL/TLS 
  2. Outgoing: smtp.verizon.net | Port: 465 | Encryption: SSL/TLS 
• When the password prompt appears, simply paste the App Password you generated earlier. 

3. Staying in Classic Outlook 

Microsoft provides support for the Classic version until 2029. To ensure it remains your default app: 

•  If the "New Outlook" opens by default, you can simply slide the New Outlook toggle in the top-right corner to Off. 
•  If you don't see a toggle, you can find the Go to Classic Outlook option under the Help tab. 
• While Classic Outlook is open, it's helpful to right-click its icon on your taskbar and select Pin to taskbar for easy access.

To sync an AOL verizon.net account on a new laptop in classic Outlook and keep using classic Outlook, do the following.

1. Add the AOL/Verizon account in classic Outlook using manual (advanced) setup:
   1. Open classic Outlook on the new laptop.
   2. Select File > Add Account.
   3. Enter the verizon.net email address, select Advanced options, check Let me set up my account manually, then select Connect.
   4. Choose IMAP.
   5. On Account settings, enter the incoming and outgoing server details provided by AOL/Verizon. If needed, use the POP/IMAP guidance in Use advanced setup to add a POP or IMAP email account in classic Outlook for Windows.
   6. Select Next, then enter the account password and select Connect.
2. If Outlook does not prompt for a password when adding the IMAP account:
   1. On the IMAP details page, make sure Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) is unchecked.
   2. If still not prompted, configure via Control Panel:
      • Open Control Panel → Mail → Email Accounts….
      • On the Email tab, select New.
      • Enter name, verizon.net address, and password in both password boxes, then select Next and follow the prompts until setup completes.
3. Keep using classic Outlook instead of new Outlook:
   1. If new Outlook is installed, use the toggle in the Outlook window to switch back to classic Outlook when needed.
   2. To prevent being switched automatically to new Outlook, configure the registry key that hides the New Outlook toggle:
      • Path: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General
      • Create DWORD: HideNewOutlookToggle
      • Value: 1 When the toggle is hidden, new Outlook will not be enabled and classic Outlook remains in use.

If the verizon.net account is actually hosted by AOL/Yahoo and IMAP folder sync issues appear (messages disappearing/reappearing) on Outlook for Mac, switching to the new Outlook for Mac is the documented workaround, but this does not affect classic Outlook for Windows.
