Hi, I'm Bernard, a fellow Windows user. I'm happy to help!

Just to confirm, can you still use the affected device? Is there any particular error message or code on the PC? I'd appreciate it if you could provide a clip or video of the issue, so we can point out the main issue you have.

For the beeping and failed updates after installing Microsoft 365, focus on fixing the Office/365 installation and Windows updates, as corrupted or incomplete installs can cause repeated errors and alerts.

    1. Repair or reinstall Microsoft 365
    • First try a repair from Windows (Apps & Features / Programs and Features).
    • If the apps still misbehave or show errors like “stopped working,” fully uninstall and reinstall Office:
      • Use the Microsoft 365 uninstall troubleshooter to completely remove Office.
      • Then reinstall Microsoft 365 following the standard install steps for PC or Mac in the “Download, install, or reinstall Microsoft 365 or Office 2024 on a PC or Mac” article.
    • If the troubleshooter does not completely uninstall Office, follow the “manually uninstall Office” steps referenced in the “I get a ‘stopped working’ error when I start Office applications on my PC” article.
    1. Check that the operating system is supported
    • Microsoft 365 requires a supported OS. If Windows is not supported, installs and updates can fail.
    • Confirm that Windows 11 build is supported using the system requirements page linked from the “Download, install, or reinstall Microsoft 365 or Office 2024 on a PC or Mac” article.
    • If the OS is unsupported, use the free Microsoft 365 apps in a browser instead of the desktop apps.
    1. Fix Office 365 desktop setup / update issues If the beeping coincides with Microsoft 365 desktop setup or Office updates failing:
    • If updates will not download even though the Internet connection is working:
      1. Open Internet Explorer (or the Internet Options control panel).
      2. Go to Tools → Internet options → Connections → LAN settings.
      3. Enable “Automatically detect settings.”
      4. If a proxy is required on the network, in the same dialog enable “Use a proxy server for your LAN” and enter the correct proxy address from the administrator.
    • If installation was interrupted (PC rebooted, install was cancelled, or connection dropped):
      • Run Microsoft 365 desktop setup again to complete any remaining updates.
    • If an update failed because a prerequisite update failed:
      • Run Microsoft 365 desktop setup again so prerequisite updates can be applied in the correct order.
    • If there is not enough disk space:
      1. Run the Disk Cleanup tool (Start → type cleanmgr → Enter).
      2. Remove temporary files, empty Recycle Bin, and delete unneeded system files.
      3. Run Microsoft 365 desktop setup again.
    • If an update is not compatible with the version of Windows:
      • Upgrade Windows to a version listed in the “Software requirements for Office 365 for business” article linked from the desktop setup troubleshooting page.
    1. Update Windows and device drivers
    • Out-of-date or incompatible drivers can cause Office apps to crash or behave unexpectedly.
    • Run Windows Update:
      • Windows 11/10: Start → Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update → Check for updates.
    • Install all available updates.
    • If problems continue, update key device drivers (video card, printer, mouse, keyboard, and any laptop-specific drivers) from the hardware manufacturer’s site, as suggested in the “Incompatible device drivers” section.
    1. If Office apps show “stopped working” or similar errors
    • Follow the sequence in the “I get a ‘stopped working’ error when I start Office applications on my PC” article:
      • Uninstall and reinstall Office (using the troubleshooter or manual uninstall if needed).
      • Then ensure Windows and drivers are fully updated.

After completing these steps, Office/365 should install and update correctly. If the beeping persists, check whether it coincides with specific Office error dialogs or Windows update failures; resolving those underlying errors typically stops repeated alert sounds.
