I received an email from Microsoft with the subject: Your Microsoft 365 Business Basic subscription has been disabled

I have never had a business account. Furthermore, the individuals name referenced in the account is not mine and I don't know who they are.

I don't know who or how to contact an actual Microsoft person to discuss this issue.

    Dear @Ava Martin

Thanks for providing the details about the behavior you're seeing. I understand how concerning it can be to get an unexpected email that mentions an unfamiliar name or subscription.

Based on what you described, the email is very likely not legitimate, especially since you have never had a Microsoft 365 business subscription and the name included does not match yours.

There are two common reasons why this type of message may appear:

    • The email could be phishing or spoofed, designed to make you click a link, call a number, or share sign‑in or payment details. It’s safest not to interact with it.
    • It could also be a misdirected Microsoft 365 business notification. The term “Disabled” usually appears when a business subscription ends, and these notices should only go to that tenant’s admin. If it mentions someone you don’t know, treat it as suspicious.
    • Legitimate Microsoft emails typically come from @microsoft.com or @microsoft365.com.

To help you stay secure, here are the steps you can take now:

Step 1: Avoid interacting with the email

Do not click any links, open attachments, scan QR codes, call numbers, or reply. This prevents accidental exposure to unsafe content.

Step 2: Review any subscriptions linked to your Microsoft account

    Visit: https://account.microsoft.com/services

Sign in and check whether there is any unexpected subscription listed. If everything looks correct, you can safely ignore the reference in the email.

Step 3: Check your recent sign‑in activity and update your security

Go to the Security in your Microsoft account to confirm there is no unfamiliar access.

If you notice anything unusual, it is best to change your password and update your security information, including a recovery phone number and email. Enabling two‑step verification is also recommended for stronger protection.

    Step 4: Report the message

In Outlook or Outlook on the web, select the email and choose Report then Phishing or Report junk. This sends the message safely for analysis and helps improve filtering accuracy.
