Use an app password from AOL instead of the normal AOL account password when adding the account to Outlook.

For new Outlook for Windows:

1. In Outlook, go to View > View settings or File > Account info.
2. Select Accounts > Your accounts.
3. Under Email accounts, select Add Account.
4. Enter the AOL email address and select Continue.
5. When Outlook asks for the password, do not use the regular AOL password.
6. In a browser, sign in to AOL and follow their steps to generate an app password (see AOL’s article "Create and manage 3rd-party app passwords").
7. Copy the app password from AOL and paste it into Outlook when prompted for the account password.
8. Complete the setup.

If using classic Outlook for Windows instead of new Outlook, the same app password requirement applies: generate the app password on AOL’s site and use it in place of the normal password when Outlook prompts for credentials.

App passwords are one-time passwords that allow Outlook to access the AOL account securely without using the main account password. Many providers, including AOL, require this for IMAP or non‑Microsoft accounts in Outlook.
