Office 2010 is no longer supported, but reactivation on a new or restored computer is still possible if the product key is valid and the license terms allow it.
- First, confirm that the key being used is an Office 2010 key (not Windows, not another Office version, not a single‑app key like Word, and not a volume license key from a school or company). Office product keys are not interchangeable between versions, suites, or other Microsoft products.
- Carefully re‑enter the 25‑character product key, watching for common mistakes such as B/8, G/6, O/0, Q/0, and VV/W.
- Try activating Office 2010 online:
- Open an Office 2010 app (for example, Word 2010).
- Select File > Help > Activate Product Key.
- Follow the steps in the Activation Wizard.
- If online activation fails or you see a message that Office has been installed too many times, use phone activation:
- In the Activation Wizard, choose I want to activate the software by telephone.
- Call the number for the country/region listed in the article linked from the wizard.
- Provide the installation ID shown on screen; after verification, enter the confirmation ID provided by the Activation Center back into the wizard.
- If automated prompts do not resolve the issue, stay on the line without entering anything to be transferred to a support agent.
If the product key itself is invalid, blocked, or not the correct type for the Office 2010 edition being installed, activation will not succeed and a different valid license will be required.
