    Hi Doc

Thanks for your post. I understand that you’re trying to recover a deleted email from the Outlook/Hotmail server.

Before we go any further, please make sure you've already tried the Q&A Assist steps under your post. In addition, please try the following:

    1, Check other default folders

Sometimes messages are moved automatically by rules or filters.

    • Check Archive, Junk Email, and any custom folders
    • If you find the message, right‑click it and select Move > Inbox

    2, Verify mailbox rules

Inbox rules can silently move or delete emails.

    • Open Settings > Mail > Rules
    • Look for any rule that: Deletes messages or Moves mail to Deleted Items or Junk Email
    • Disable any suspicious rules and save your changes.

Please feel free to let me know how it goes so I can guide you further. I truly appreciate your time and understanding.

To recover emails that are no longer in the Deleted Items folder for an Outlook.com/Hotmail account, use the Recoverable Items folder from Outlook on the web (or new Outlook) if they are still retained on the server.

For Outlook on the web / Outlook.com:

    1. Sign in to Outlook on the web or Outlook.com using a PC or Mac (Recoverable Items is not available in mobile browsers).
    2. In the left pane, select the Deleted Items folder.
    3. At the top of the message list, select Recover items deleted from this folder.
    4. In the Recoverable Items list, select the messages to restore.
      • Use Ctrl+Click to select individual messages.
      • Use Shift+Click to select a range.
    5. Select Restore.

Recovered items are restored to their original folders when possible. If the original folder no longer exists, items are restored as follows:

    • Messages go to Inbox.
    • Calendar items go to Calendar.
    • Contacts go to the Contacts folder.
    • Tasks go to the Tasks folder.

If the messages do not appear in the Recoverable Items view, they have likely been permanently removed from the service and cannot be recovered.

For new Outlook for Windows connected to Outlook.com:

    1. Select the Deleted Items folder.
    2. Select Recover items deleted from this folder.
    3. Hover over each item and check the box next to it.
    4. On the Home tab, select Restore.
      • To restore multiple items, select multiple checkboxes or the checkbox next to Recoverable Items (if available) and then select Restore.

If the items are not present in Recoverable Items in new Outlook either, they are no longer recoverable from the server.
