A new product key is not required if there is a valid, unused Office 2007 product key available from the original purchase and it has not exceeded its allowed number of activations.
To reinstall and activate Office 2007 on a new computer:
- Locate the existing 25-character product key (format
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX) from one of these places:
- Sticker on the original CD case or other packaging.
- Certificate of Authenticity.
- Confirmation email from the original online purchase.
- Install Office 2007 from the original installation disc.
- When prompted during setup or first launch, enter that product key.
- Activate Office 2007:
- Start an Office app (for example, Word 2007).
- Use the Activation Wizard to activate over the Internet or by phone, as described in the activation article.
If the original product key has been lost, only Microsoft support can help if valid proof of purchase is available. If the key does not work (for example, blocked or invalid), contact the seller for a refund if it was purchased separately, as it may be a fraudulent key.
Note that Office 2007 is no longer supported; upgrading to a newer version is recommended.
