Hi Trisha Yates,
For your information, when Google Chrome is opened from the Windows taskbar, it follows Chrome’s startup settings to decide which page appears. The taskbar itself simply launches the application.
To have Chrome open directly to the Google Search page, you can adjust Chrome’s startup configuration as outlined below:
1, Set Google Search as Chrome’s startup page
- Open Google Chrome
- Select Settings > On startup
- Choose Open a specific set of pages
- Add:
https://www.google.com
2, Refresh the taskbar shortcut
- Right‑click the Chrome icon on the taskbar and select Unpin
- Open Chrome from the Start menu
- Right‑click the running Chrome icon and select Pin to taskbar
If you prefer a dedicated Google Search button:
- Open
https://www.google.comin Chrome - Click on the three-dot menu in the top corner of Chrome
- Go to More tools > Create shortcut
- Enable Open as window, then pin the shortcut to the taskbar
