Questions about GTA V

Okay, so about 7 or 8 months ago I bought GTA and only a few months ago did I realize I can't mod it because I bought VIA Xbox (I want to play the mod LSPDFR because I've always been obsessed with being a police officer, but I know how dangerous it can be, and LSPDFR is the closest game to IRL than any other police sim I've ever seen). I know it's past the 4 week period or whatever they have, but I want to ask two questions:

  1. If I where to buy GTA V through steam, would my online progress be the same if I logged in with the same email (if that's possible)?
  2. And, do you think I could get a refund or no? (I know it's a stupid questions and the obvious answer is no, but I thought I'd ask it anyways)

(NOTE: I know I can request a refund, but I wanted to know if question #1 was true before requesting it, because I don't want to lose all my progress I've grinded. Also I know this is somewhat irrelevant, but I'm broke and I got GTA through Microsoft Rewards. If either of these questions don't work or are a NO I guess I'll try to buy it on steam as well, I just think it'd be a waste of money)

Thanks so much

    Hello yourfur7,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Before proceeding to your questions, may I know what happens when you tried to install the mods? As far as I know, Xbox app on PC allow mods for GTAV Offline mode, even from third parties. However, the apps cannot guarantee the safety of the mod's files, so proceed as your own risk.

For whether or not the progress will be kept, the Online version will, since they are linked to your Rockstar account. As long as you sign in to the correct Rockstar account, your progress online is saved. For Single Player mode, usually it is not since the storefronts is different, you can consider moving the save profiles from one storefront to another, however this is not guaranteed to work.

To be sure if you are eligible for a refund of this, you will need to check on the request form. However, you said that this come from Microsoft Rewards, these usually acquired by code redemption and for most cases, code redemption cannot be refunded.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    1. Online progress when switching to Steam

Context does not contain information about Grand Theft Auto V account or character migration between Xbox and Steam. No statement can be made here based on the provided material.

    1. Possibility of a refund for the Xbox purchase

For Microsoft Store/Xbox digital games, refund requests are handled through the Xbox refund process:

    1. Go to the Xbox support page to Request a refund for digital games and sign in.
    2. Select the relevant GTA V order and choose Request a refund.
    3. Provide the reason and select Next.
    4. If everything is correct, select Submit.

Refund requests can take up to 72 hours to process, and status can be checked on the Refund status tab or via Xbox order history. Refunds are generally processed back to the original payment method within 3–5 business days after approval.

Digital goods (apps, games, add-ons, subscriptions, movies, TV, books) are not refundable unless the offer or applicable law states eligibility, so approval is not guaranteed, especially long after purchase. However, the only way to know is to submit a request through the official refund flow.

If online returns are not available in the region, Sales support can be contacted for help with Microsoft Store purchases.
