Are your files showing a cloud icon, green check, or solid green circle in File Explorer?

If some files show a cloud icon, they are only online. Download them first:

• Open File Explorer. > Click OneDrive on the left.
• Select the folders/files you want to keep. > Right-click them.
• Click "Always keep on this device". > Wait until the icons turn to a green check.

After that, move them out of OneDrive:

• Create a new folder on your PC (for example: Documents or Desktop).
• Drag the files from the OneDrive folder to that new folder.

Once everything is moved, you can disconnect OneDrive:

• Click the OneDrive cloud icon in the taskbar. > Click Settings.
• Go to Account. > Click Unlink this PC.

To delete files from OneDrive but keep them on the PC, move them out of the OneDrive folder before deleting them from OneDrive.

On Windows:

1. Open File Explorer from the taskbar.
2. Open the OneDrive folder.
3. For any file or folder that should stay only on the PC, drag or move it to a different folder that is not inside OneDrive (for example, C:\Users\<name>\Documents or another custom folder).
4. After the files are safely outside the OneDrive folder, delete them from OneDrive (either in File Explorer inside the OneDrive folder or on the OneDrive website). This removes them from the cloud but leaves the copies that were moved outside OneDrive on the PC.

Do not delete files directly from inside the OneDrive folder if they have not been moved elsewhere first, because that deletes them from both OneDrive and the synced PC.
