Microphone - No Input Device Found

Lenovo Ryzen Pro 7 (Windows OS) includes a microphone, but setting says "no input devices found." This has happened before, where the microphone is recognized and usable sometimes, but seems to disappear at other times. How do I fix this? App permissions are set to "yes" in privacy settings...that is not the issue. It appears as though there is no microphone installed on this computer.

Hi! Let me help you with this issue.

Please hover your mouse over the sound icon in the lower-right corner, then right-click it and select Troubleshoot Sound. Let the troubleshooter finish its task, then this should either resolve the problem or display an error message.

If that doesn't work, we need to remove the Audio driver from the Device Manager and restart the PC to reinstall it.

Here are the steps to completely remove a Device from your computer.

Step 1. Use the Windows key + X shortcut.

    Step 2. Select Device Manager.

Step 3. Expand the entry Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. Right-click the problematic device, which is either Realtek Audio, or AMD High-definition Audio, or High-Definition Audio, depending on the audio device installed in your PC, and select Uninstall device.

Step 4. You need to check the option Delete the driver software for this device and then click the Uninstall button.

    Step 5. Reboot the computer.

After the reboot, please see if the problem is fixed.

If that still does not work, please visit the support website of your laptop or desktop and then download and install the latest Audio driver, then restart the PC.

Use the following steps in order, focusing on Windows 11 and the fact that no input device is shown at all.

    1. Confirm Windows can see any microphone at all
      • Select Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      • Under Input, check Choose a device for speaking or recording.
      • If nothing is listed, Windows is not detecting the audio input device and the issue is at driver/hardware level.
    2. Reinstall the audio drivers (when Windows is not detecting the microphone) When Windows does not detect the headset, camera, or microphone, reinstalling audio drivers is recommended:
      1. Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
      2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
      3. For each audio device listed, right-click and select Uninstall device.
        • Check Delete the driver software for this device (or Attempt to remove the driver for this device, depending on the dialog), then select Uninstall.
        • Repeat for any other audio devices.
      4. Restart the PC. Windows will attempt to reinstall audio devices and drivers automatically.
      5. If nothing reappears, open Device Manager again, right-click Sound, video and game controllers, and select Scan for hardware changes.
      6. After devices reappear, right-click the main audio driver and select Update driver.
    3. Make sure the internal microphone is selected and working Once an input device appears again:
      1. Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
      2. Under Input, select the internal microphone in Choose a device for speaking or recording.
      3. Select the microphone to open its properties.
      4. Under Input settings, select Start test, speak normally, then Stop test and Play the sample. If needed, adjust the Input volume slider.
    4. Verify microphone privacy settings (already checked, but confirm scope)
      • Select Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone.
      • Ensure Microphone access is On.
      • Ensure Let apps access your microphone is On.
      • Ensure Let desktop apps access your microphone is On.
    5. If still no input device appears
      • Ensure Windows Update is enabled and fully up to date, as missing or blocked updates can prevent audio devices from installing correctly.
      • If audio inputs and outputs have suddenly disappeared, reinstalling or updating the driver from Lenovo’s support site for the exact model (Ryzen Pro 7 system) is often required, as confirmed in similar cases where reinstalling the driver fixed missing audio devices.

If, after driver reinstall and Windows Update, there is still no microphone device listed in Sound > Input and no relevant device in Device Manager, the issue is likely hardware-related on the Lenovo system and requires vendor repair/support.
