I sent an email to a group of about 65 friends, but it was blocked and received the following:

Hello [PII: Removed]

The daily message limit helps us free the world from spammers--we're sorry that it's getting in your way.

Thanks, The Outlook.com Team

Why did this happen? I only sent one email today.

    Dear Shari Cole

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A forum. I understand you are having problem with Outlook.com blocking a single message you sent to about 65 recipients and showing: “The daily message limit helps us free the world from spammers…”. I am happy to assist you.

Are you using a free Outlook.com account or Microsoft 365 subscription, and were most of the 65 recipients people you have not emailed before (non‑relationship recipients)?

Please let me know when you have time. I look forward to hearing from you.

    Have a lovely day!

Outlook.com enforces sending limits to protect against spam. Even though only one email was sent today, that single message went to a relatively large group (about 65 recipients). Outlook.com limits both:

    • How many total recipients can be emailed per day
    • How many “non-relationship” recipients (people not emailed before) can be emailed per day

If the account is new or has low sending history, Outlook.com applies a lower temporary quota until enough normal usage is established. Hitting that quota can trigger the “daily message limit” block, even with a single large group email.

To avoid this in the future:

    1. Reduce the number of recipients per message or send to smaller batches.
    2. Build up normal sending history over time so the quota can increase.
    3. Ensure recipients are added to Contacts so they count more as “relationship” recipients.

If the account is very new, this restriction is temporary and will be upgraded as credibility is established.
