I lost my ding sound

Hi, my mouse was acting up so I went to fix the mouse settings, and somehow, in my pictures folders, I lost the notification ding sound that informs me that a picture already exists when I want to replace it. It may sound petty to you, but it's a routine I'm used to. I don't want to go back and restore, because I don't want to mess up the mouse settings. I've already tried to restore it using control panel. When I selected default beep, apply setting wouldn't work Any ideas?

    Welcome Denita Arnold,

I understand how frustrating it can be when the notification “ding” sound that normally plays when a file already exists (for example, when replacing a picture in the Pictures folder) is no longer working in Windows 11, and restoring the default sound did not apply successfully.

To help narrow this down, could you please confirm:

    • Does the issue occur only when replacing files in File Explorer, or are other system sounds (such as error or warning sounds) also missing?
    • Are you using a custom sound scheme, or is the Windows Default sound scheme currently selected?

In the meantime, you can try the steps below to troubleshoot the issue:

Step 1: Open Control Panel from the Start menu > Sound, then open the Sounds tab

    • Under Sound Scheme, select Windows Default and click Apply, then OK

Step 2: In the same Sounds tab, and check that sounds such as Default Beep and Asterisk are assigned and not set to None

Step 3: Click the event that corresponds to notifications or warnings, select a sound from the list, click Test to confirm it plays, then click Apply

Step 4: Go to Settings > System > Sound > scroll down and select Volume mixer and confirming that System Sounds volume is turned up

Step 5: Restart Windows Explorer by opening Task Manager from the Start menu, selecting Windows Explorer, and choosing Restart

Step 6: Restart the device to ensure the sound scheme reloads correctly

I really hope that the information I gave above was helpful to you. Please feel free to reply below and let me know if you have further concern on this matter.
