Family Safety Approval

Question

I have been trying to approve sites for my daughter on the Family Safety program. It just keeps sending her back to the "ask permission" page when I click the provided link for the page I approved. How do I fix this? Thanks!

Hi Kevin V,

This can happen when the site you approved doesn’t exactly match the site Edge is opening (for example due to redirects), or when Family Safety hasn’t finished syncing the new permission to your daughter’s device yet. In some cases, it can take a short while for the approved status to fully apply.

Please try the following:

• In Family Safety > your daughter’s profile > Content filters > Edge > Allowed sites, manually add the exact website address she’s trying to open. If the site redirects, also allow the redirected domain and the www version.
• Close the existing “Ask permission” tab completely.
• In your daughter’s Edge profile, open a new tab and try the site again instead of reusing the approval page.
• Sign her out of Edge, then sign back in using the same child Microsoft account that’s part of your Family group.
• Check whether Only use allowed websites is turned on. If it is, every redirected site may also need to be added to the allowed list.

If the approval doesn’t apply right away, give it a few minutes and test again, as the setting may still be syncing from Microsoft’s servers to the device.
