    Hi Scott,

Please run winver.exe and post a screenshot of that dialog.

Are you trying to install the 25H2 Feature Update via Windows Update?

Error 0x800f0823 when installing Windows 11, version 25H2 indicates that a required servicing stack update (SSU) or prerequisite cumulative update is missing. Resolve it by manually installing the prerequisite update and then retrying the 25H2 update.

    Follow these steps:

    1. Identify the required prerequisite update
      • For Windows 11, version 25H2, first confirm the current Windows 11 version and build in Settings > System > About.
      • Then, in the appropriate update history article for the current version (for example, Windows 11 update history), locate the latest cumulative update and its KB number.
    2. Download the prerequisite update from Microsoft Update Catalog
      • Open the relevant update history page for the OS version:
        • Windows 11, all versions: see the Windows 11 update history entry in the Windows Update troubleshooting article.
      • From that page, note the KB number of the required cumulative update.
      • Go to the Microsoft Update Catalog and search for that KB number.
      • From the search results, choose the package that matches the device architecture (most home PCs are x64), then download the .msu file.
    3. Install the prerequisite update
      • Run the downloaded .msu file on the affected PC.
      • Allow the installation to complete and restart the PC when prompted.
    4. Retry the Windows 11, version 25H2 update
      • After restart, go to Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates.
      • Try installing the Windows 11, version 25H2 update again.
    5. If the error persists
      • Repeat step 2 to confirm that all required cumulative updates for the current branch are installed.
      • If 0x800f0823 still occurs after installing the latest cumulative updates and rebooting, collect CBS.log and contact Microsoft Support as recommended in the Windows Update troubleshooting guidance.
