How do I change from a family plan to a personal individual plan

Switch to a Microsoft 365 subscription with fewer features

To switch to a Microsoft 365 subscription with fewer features, you must cancel your existing subscription and then buy another subscription. You'll continue to use your old subscription until it expires.

1. Sign in to your Microsoft account and go to the Subscriptions tab at account.microsoft.com/services. Manage subscriptions
2. Find your current subscription and select Manage, and then select Cancel subscription.
3. The Cancel page will show you the features of your current subscription plan. If you're switching to another plan with fewer features, select the plan that works for you.
4. Follow the instructions to complete the switch. Note: Your existing subscription might not change immediately, but it will automatically change to the new plan when the plan renews. You won't be charged for the new plan until it renews into that plan.

To change from Microsoft 365 Family to Microsoft 365 Personal (a plan with fewer features), the existing Family subscription must effectively be cancelled/downgraded and then moved to the Personal plan.

Follow these steps:

1. Go to the Subscriptions page and sign in with the Microsoft account that has the Family subscription: https://account.microsoft.com/services
2. Under Subscriptions, find the current Microsoft 365 Family subscription and select Manage.
3. Select Cancel subscription.
4. On the Cancel page, the available downgrade options are shown. Choose the Microsoft 365 plan with fewer features that fits the requirement (for example, Microsoft 365 Personal) if it is offered there.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the switch.

Notes:

• The current Family subscription continues to work until it expires; the account will then move to the new plan at renewal.
• The new plan is not charged until it renews into that plan.

If switching is being done after a free trial, first turn off recurring billing on the current plan from the same Subscriptions page, then purchase Microsoft 365 Personal.
