I purchased Office Home 2024 lifetime license for one computer on 14th March 2026 Order #6690400949. I followed the prompts for installation but once the installation was completed, Office Home 2024 lifetime license decided to convert my purchase to a 365 subscription which I do not want. How does this happen and why? What can I do to instal what `I paid for? I cannot contact Microsoft for assistance and have to rely on this Q & A for help.

Office 2024 installing and then showing as Microsoft 365 usually means the device is still holding on to an old Microsoft 365 license from a previous employer or subscription, and that license is taking priority over the new Office 2024 Home (one-time purchase) license.

In a similar Mac scenario, the installed Office apps were still licensed to the former employer’s Microsoft 365 subscription even after installing Office 2024. The resolution was to remove the old Office/Microsoft 365 license from the device and then sign in/activate with the correct account for the new Office 2024 purchase.

To get the perpetual Office 2024 license working instead of Microsoft 365:

    1. Remove the old Microsoft 365 license from the Mac (for example, the work or school account that previously activated Office). Follow the documented “Remove Office license” steps for Mac to clear the existing license from the device.
    2. Make sure the Office apps are signed out of any work/school Microsoft 365 account.
    3. Open an Office app (such as Word) and sign in with the Microsoft account that was used to redeem or purchase the Office Home 2024 license.
    4. Let the app reactivate; it should now pick up the Office 2024 one-time purchase license instead of a Microsoft 365 subscription.

If the wrong license is still being applied after removing the old one, use the “switch your license” flow described for moving from a subscription to a one-time purchase: open an Office app and follow the steps to switch the license to the non-subscription Office product associated with the correct Microsoft account.

If direct support is needed (for example, if the product is not correctly associated with the Microsoft account), use the official support contact options from the Microsoft account or billing pages to reach a live agent.
