Hi prashanth m|g,
Thanks for your post. I’m happy to help look into this with you. Please try these troubleshooting steps (in order)
Step 1 – Check whether the touchpad device is hidden in Device Manager
Sometimes the touchpad driver is present but hidden.
- Right‑click “Start” > select “Device Manager”
- Click “View” > select “Show hidden devices”
- Expand “Human Interface Devices” and “Mice and other pointing devices”
- If you see a touchpad device listed but greyed out, right‑click it and select “Enable device”
Step 2 – Reinstall the touchpad driver
If the driver is corrupted, reinstalling it allows Windows to reload a clean copy.
- Open “Device Manager”
- Right‑click the touchpad device > select “Uninstall device”
- Restart the PC
- After restart, Windows will automatically reinstall the driver
Step 3 – Check Windows Update for optional driver updates
OEM touchpad drivers are often delivered as optional updates.
- Open “Settings” > “Windows Update”
- Select “Advanced options” > “Optional updates”
- Install any available driver updates related to input, HID, Synaptics, or ELAN
- Restart the device
Step 4 – Check touchpad status in BIOS/UEFI (HP systems)
If Windows cannot detect the touchpad at all, it may be disabled at firmware level.
- Shut down the PC
- Power it on and immediately tap F10 (HP BIOS)
- Look for “Built‑in Device Options” or “Touchpad”
- Ensure it is set to “Enabled”, then save and exit
If the touchpad is disabled in BIOS, Windows will not be able to detect it.
