I am extremely frustrated at the moment with Microsoft Support!

I have been unable to access my email account for months and no one is helping!

Here is what happens:

  • I enter my email address and press "Next".
  • I get this message: "Your account has been locked We've detected some activity that violates our Microsoft Services Agreement and have locked your account. How to appeal this and unlock your account Choose Next and we'll send a verification code to your phone. After you enter the code, you can get back into your account."
  • So, I choose "Next", and it prompts me to enter my phone number, which I do.
  • I get this message: "Try another verification method That verification method isn't working right now. Please try another method."

And it's always this endless loop!

I've gone to support pages that mentioned that I need to change my passwrod, so I did and still nothing.

I've tried using the backup email so I can try to access using a code, and nothing.

And I've submitted 2 tickets to which I get irrelevant and unhelpful replies from the support team and they just end the single email reply the send back with "This issue has now been resolved and ticket has been closed"!!!!!!!!!!

Hey there! Nice to meet you!

The error message you received, "Try another verification method That verification method isn't working right now. Please try another method." indicates that your account is temporarily blocked due to the system detecting unusual activity.

Kindly perform these steps to fix the verification method error:

    1. Perform a password reset via Incognito/InPrivate window using different devices and network services.
    2. If it doesn't work, wait exactly 48 hours to reset the password.
    3. If the issue persists, kindly wait exactly 1 week to perform another password reset. The idea is to wait for the account lock to expire first before you reset the password, as stated in this article: https://support.microsoft.com/account-billing/troubleshooting-verification-code-issues-409090c4-92b5-42b9-8ae6-bcc97e62fc48#:~:text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did#:~:text=If%20you%20received%20a%20Microsoft%20verification%20code%20that%20you%20did

Important: Please make sure not to attempt to sign in or reset the password within that timeframe (48 hours or 1 week), as this may reset the lock cooldown.

Thank you for your understanding! Please feel free to let me know if you need anything else.

    Best regards,

    Darhyl

The behavior described matches a locked Microsoft account combined with a block on the verification method being used.

Based on the documented behavior, these are the concrete steps to take:

    1. Understand why the account is locked
      • The message indicates the account was locked for activity that may violate the Microsoft Services Agreement. Common reasons include suspected malware, phishing, or spam activity, or other violations such as using scripts/bots or creating multiple accounts to bypass policies.
      • Details on typical lock reasons are documented under Why is my Microsoft account temporarily suspended?
    2. Follow the official unlock/appeal path
      • When the sign-in page shows that the account is locked and does not show a working Next path, the documented guidance is to use the aka.ms/ link shown in the lock message window to submit the account reinstatement form.
      • After submitting that form, a Microsoft Online Safety support agent reviews it and responds by email. Submitting multiple forms can slow down the response, so only submit once and wait for the reply.
    3. Address the “Try another verification method” loop The “Try another verification method” error is a known block condition on verification methods:
      • It can be triggered by:
        • Unusual activity or sign-in patterns.
        • High volume of verification requests to the same phone/email.
        • A broader block related to Terms of Service violations or suspicious traffic from the region/network.
      • To work around this:
        1. Try another method already configured on the account (for example, alternate email instead of SMS, or vice versa) if the page offers that option.
        2. Try another network: switch between Wi‑Fi and mobile data, or use a different Wi‑Fi network, then attempt the verification again.
        3. Wait out the block: avoid repeated attempts. Waiting at least 24 hours (and, if needed, up to a week) without further sign-in or code requests allows temporary blocks to clear. Repeated attempts can reset the timer.
        4. Use the documented sign-in helper tool to diagnose sign-in issues and see available support options: Sign-in helper.
    4. If verification codes still cannot be used
      • If no verification method works and the “Try another verification method” message continues, the guidance is:
        • Choose a different verification method if any is available.
        • If none are available or accessible, wait until access to the registered phone/email is possible.
        • Support agents are not allowed to send verification codes or change account details on behalf of the user; all recovery must go through the automated flows.
    5. When further help is needed
      • For additional technical help with the sign-in and verification process (not for bypassing security), use the official support entry point: Contact Microsoft Support, select Get Help, then, if needed, Contact Support to be routed to the available support option for the region.
      • For locked accounts specifically, ensure the account reinstatement form referenced by the aka.ms link in the lock message has been submitted with accurate information and then wait for the review outcome.

In summary, the documented path is:

    • Use the aka.ms reinstatement link shown on the lock screen to appeal the lock.
    • Avoid repeated verification attempts; wait at least 24 hours (up to a week) if the “Try another verification method” block persists.
    • Try alternative verification methods and networks where possible.
    • Use the sign-in helper and, if needed, the Contact Support entry point for additional guidance, understanding that agents cannot override the automated security and verification processes.
