I paid to upgrade from Windows 11 Home to Pro in the Microsoft Store. The download failed. I did not receive an activation key so am unsure how to proceed at this point. I have had 2 appointments with customer service that had to end prior to resolution due to time constraints. I had an appointment this morning with the rep that helped me yesterday, but I believe I am being stood up (he is 30 minutes late). Any tips to getting this download to work?

Upgrade license is digital only, it doesn't come with the actual key. Your Microsoft account itself is the key.

This is the standard alternative method you can try, assuming there's no other underlying issues.

You can go to Settings > System > Activation > Change product key

Disconnect internet, and disable any third party antivirus, key in the generic key instead: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

That should get you to Pro. Once restarted, you can connect back to the internet, sign into your Microsoft account. See if it is activated.

If it doesn't, let me know what error you receive, so we can review further if needed.

To complete the upgrade and get Windows 11 Pro working, use the Microsoft Store and account order history rather than looking for a separate product key.

    1. Confirm the purchase and get the key/install entry
      1. Go to Order history: https://account.microsoft.com/billing/orders.
      2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account used to buy the Pro upgrade.
      3. Find the Windows 11 Pro upgrade entry and select Product key/Install if it is available.
      4. If Product key/Install is not shown but Install is, select Install to start the process; some purchases do not expose a separate key.
    2. Retry the Pro upgrade from Microsoft Store
      1. On the Windows 11 PC, open Microsoft Store.
      2. Use this shortcut if needed: Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro.
      3. Ensure the Store is signed in with the same Microsoft account used for the purchase.
      4. The Store detects the existing Windows 11 Home activation and guides through the Pro upgrade without needing to manually enter a key.
    3. If the Store still fails to download/upgrade
      1. Reset the Microsoft Store app:
        • Press Windows logo key + R.
        • Type wsreset.exe and select OK.
        • A blank command window opens, then Microsoft Store reopens automatically.
      2. Open Order history again and retry Product key/Install or Install for the Windows 11 Pro upgrade.
    4. If there is still no key or install option
      1. In Order history, if only the product name is visible, select the product name; if the button that used to say Buy now says Install, select Install to trigger the upgrade.
      2. If none of these options appear, contact Microsoft Support again and reference the Pro upgrade order in Order history so support can correct the entitlement on the account.

The upgrade from Home to Pro is handled as a digital entitlement tied to the Microsoft account and existing Windows activation, so the process normally completes via Microsoft Store and Order history without needing a separate emailed key.
