Please help: Can delete a tenant

I have a Azure tenant tenant associated with my account from a consulting business I was involved with three or four years ago. It’s UNT (University of North Texas). I’ve tried disconnecting it, deleting it, writing to UNT, and using Azure CLI, but nothing works. Can I call Azure Support? I can’t find it as an option, and I have the service plan for my portal.

It sounds like you’re trying to get rid of that old UNT tenant but keep running into roadblocks
Are you actually a Global Administrator in the UNT tenant?

Sign in to the Azure portal with the work/school account that’s homed in that UNT directory (not your personal or another default directory).

Clean up everything that blocks tenant deletion. UNT must pass all these checks before you can hit “Delete”:

No active subscriptions (Azure, M365, EMS, etc.). If you had any subscriptions there, cancel them, wait for the canceled state to become “Deprovisioned” (up to 72 hrs), then delete them.

No other users (delete everyone except your Global Admin account).

No registered apps or enterprise service principals (remove them in App registrations or via PowerShell/Graph).

No custom domains, MFA providers, policy keys or custom policies (delete or revert to default “onmicrosoft.com”).

Delete the tenant with the portal flow:

Azure portal → Microsoft Entra ID (a.k.a. Azure AD) → Manage tenants → select the UNT tenant → Delete.

If there are still failures, the portal will give you a link to the check you’re failing.

What is the error are you getting when you try to leave the organization. Is your account still active in your UNT tenant?
