Hello emkapro,
Thanks for raising this question in Azure Q&A forum.
A deactivated personal Azure account/tenant can be reactivated, but the recovery window is strictly limited to 20 days from when the block was applied after which the tenant is permanently deleted and unrecoverable. Act immediately if you are within that window.
Step 1 — Check how long ago the account was deactivated (critical)
Look at the timestamp in the AADSTS5000225 error message or any notification email you received from Microsoft. If it has been more than 20 days since the block was applied, unfortunately the tenant has been permanently deleted and cannot be recovered — you will need to create a new Azure account.
If it has been less than 20 days, proceed immediately with the steps below.
Step 2 — Try self-service reactivation first (fastest path)
For a disabled/cancelled subscription (not an inactivity block), self-service reactivation works through the portal:
- Sign in at portal.azure.com with your Microsoft account
Go to Subscriptions in the left menu
Find your disabled subscription
Click Reactivate or Re-enable
Follow the prompts — you may need to update payment details
If this button is not visible or you cannot sign in at all, proceed to Step 3.
Step 3 — Create a support request via the exact steps below
Follow this specific path to avoid getting stuck in the self-service loop:
Go to: https://portal.azure.com/#create/Microsoft.Support
Type "re-enable subscription" in the search box and click Go
Select Subscription management → click Next
Select your subscription from the dropdown → click Next
Wait for options to load — then click "Create a support request" at the top. Do NOT click any of the suggested solutions
Fill in the form:
Summary: Azure private account deactivated — requesting reactivation
**Problem type**: Re-enable my subscription
**Problem subtype**: Could not reactivate by self-service
Click **Next** — when solutions appear again, click **"Return to support request"** in the upper left corner
Complete the form and submit
Step 4 — If you cannot access the portal at all
If the AADSTS5000225 error prevents you from signing in entirely, contact Microsoft Support directly:
Online (no login required): https://support.microsoft.com/contactus → Select Azure → Can't sign in to my account
Phone: Call Microsoft Azure support at your regional number (India: 0008004409836, US: 1-800-867-7133)
Provide these details to the support agent:
text
- Tenant ID (visible in the AADSTS error URL)
- Correlation ID from the error message
- Timestamp of when the login failure started
- Your Microsoft account email address
- Brief reason for reactivation
Step 5 — While waiting for response
Submit only ONE request — submitting multiple requests while one is in process will slow down or complicate the reactivation
Do not attempt repeated logins to the blocked tenant as this may trigger additional security holds
Check your email (including spam/junk folder) for any response from Microsoft regarding the reactivation decision
After reactivation is successful
Once Microsoft unblocks your tenant:
Sign in immediately and verify all resources are intact
Update your payment method if the deactivation was due to billing issues
Set up a calendar reminder to sign in at least once every 30 days if the account is not actively used — this prevents future inactivity deactivation
Consider setting up an Azure cost alert even at $1/month spend threshold to ensure the subscription stays active
If it helps kindly accept the answer.
Best Regards,
Jerald Felix
