    Hi,

I understand that you are receiving the message 'Please try another authentication method to sign in' when trying to log in. This usually appears due to unusual activity, a high volume of requests, or similar issues.

First, I suggest that you reset your password and try again: https://account.live.com/ResetPassword.aspx

If the issue persists, make sure you’re using a device and location you’ve previously used to sign in. Try using a different verification method, such as an alternate email instead of SMS (or vice versa). You can also switch networks by using Wi-Fi or mobile data. Avoid making repeated attempts. In some cases, waiting 24 hours or even up to a week may help resolve the issue. For further assistance, use the sign-in helper tool to identify the problem and explore available support options.

The message “try another method” means the current verification method (your phone number) is temporarily blocked due to unusual activity, high volume of requests, or other security reasons.

    Follow these steps in order:

    1. Try a different verification method
      • On the verification screen, choose another option if available (for example, an alternate email address or a different phone number connected to the account).
      • If SMS is blocked, try email verification instead, or vice versa.
    2. Switch network or device
      • Try again from a different network (for example, switch from Wi‑Fi to mobile data, or use another Wi‑Fi network).
      • If possible, also try from a different device and browser, or use InPrivate/Incognito mode after clearing browser cache and cookies.
    3. Wait before trying again
      • Stop making repeated attempts; this can extend or reset the block.
      • Wait at least 24 hours without trying to sign in or request codes. If it still fails, wait longer (up to about a week) before trying again.
    4. Use the Sign‑in Helper for blocked Outlook.com accounts
      • Go to the Sign‑in Helper: https://aka.ms/sign-in-helper
      • Follow the prompts to unblock the Outlook.com account. This is the supported path when Outlook.com or the Microsoft account dashboard is blocked.
    5. If the account itself is locked
      • Sign in at https://account.microsoft.com and follow the prompts to get a security code.
      • Any phone number that can receive SMS can be used; it does not have to be previously associated with the account.
    6. If still blocked or codes never arrive

If, after waiting and trying alternate methods and networks, the account remains blocked, the block may be tied to security policies (unusual activity, high request volume, or Terms of Use issues). In that case, only the automated systems and the official helpers above can eventually restore access; support agents cannot manually override these protections.
