Cannot install Link to Windows app. I receive a message that the app will not work on my device. It once did work. I have looked at all apps installed on my phone and Link to Windows is no longer there.

I have tried many suggestions from AI search with no results. I have Windows 11 Home Edition.

Good day Mike and Candy Barry!

Based on what you shared, you were previously able to use Link to Windows on your Samsung Galaxy A02s, but you’re now seeing a message that the app won’t work on your device, and it no longer appears in the list of installed apps on your phone.

I understand how confusing and frustrating this can be especially since Link to Windows worked on your phone before. However, this behavior is expected and related to a device‑level support change, rather than an issue with your Windows 11 Home PC or your setup.

According to Microsoft’s current Supported devices for Phone Link experiences policy, the Samsung Galaxy A02s is no longer included in the supported device list. As a result, the app may now be marked as incompatible in Google Play and, following recent system updates, may no longer appear on the phone.

Unfortunately, if the device is no longer supported, Link to Windows cannot be reinstalled or re‑enabled on the Galaxy A02s. As an alternative, you can try using web‑based options such as messaging or cloud photo access (for example, using your phone’s web services or syncing photos via OneDrive or Google Photos).

I know this isn’t the answer you were hoping for, but I hope it helps clarify the situation and saves you time from trying additional methods that may not resolve it.

Thank you so much for your patience!

    Warm regards.

Hi, I'm Rodrigo and I will help you.

On Samsung phones, Link to Windows is pre-installed and is part of the system. It is normal to not find it on the app list.

Go to Settings > Connect Devices > "Link to Windows" to see the Link to Windows settings.

On Samsung devices, Link to Windows is either:

    1. Preinstalled and managed by the system, or
    2. Installed as a standalone app from Google Play Store / Samsung Galaxy Store.

If it “once worked” and now cannot be installed and shows that it will not work on the device, the most likely causes are:

    • The device or Android version is no longer supported by the current Link to Windows app build.
    • The OEM firmware or region configuration on the Samsung A02s no longer exposes or supports the integration.

    From the available guidance:

    1. For devices where Link to Windows is preinstalled (select Samsung, HONOR, Surface Duo, OPPO):
      • It is surfaced via Quick Settings and the system Settings menu, not as a removable store app.
      • To check/update it manually on supported Samsung devices:
        • Open Settings > Advanced features > Link to Windows.
        • Tap the … (More) menu > Link to Windows.
        • If Update is available, install it from Google Play Store or Samsung Galaxy Store, then tap Done and go back.
    2. For devices where it is not preinstalled:
      • The supported path is to install Link to Windows from Google Play Store on Android 7.0 or later.
      • If the store explicitly reports that the app is not compatible with the device, there is no supported workaround in the provided documentation; that device/firmware build is treated as unsupported for the current app version.

On the Windows 11 PC side, Phone Link remains built in and cannot be uninstalled; the limitation is on the Android side when the app is not compatible or not present.

If the Samsung A02s no longer appears as compatible in the store and the Link to Windows entry is missing from Settings > Advanced features, the documented options are limited to:

    • Verifying that the device is updated to the latest available Android and Samsung firmware.
    • Checking again in Settings > Advanced features for a built-in Link to Windows entry and updating it if present.
    • If still incompatible or missing, using Phone Link with a different supported Android device, as there is no documented method to force-install or re-enable Link to Windows on an unsupported configuration.
