Translate function not working

I am using Microsoft Word for Mac Version 16.106.3

I have always been able to use the translate function without issues. However, suddenly, when I try to translate a document I get the message "To enable this experience, change your privacy preferences". When I select the red button "Privacy Preferences" it takes me to a screen with 'Word Preferences' where there are many icons.

I have no idea how to navigate this. I am happy to change my provacy preferences, but I need more specific instructions on how to do this.

Thank you.

First, update Office — Version 16.107 now is available. That probably won't enable the Translation feature but nonetheless should be done.

The AI bot has provided accurate but incomplete instructions. When yo go to Word> Preferences — Privacy & Security you then need to click the Manage Connected Experiences button. at the bottom of the dialog window In the dialog window which comes up pops up check all 3 boxes, click OK to close each dialog window then restart Word.

In Word for Mac, the Translate feature relies on online services that are controlled by Office privacy/connected-experiences settings. The message “To enable this experience, change your privacy preferences” indicates those services are currently disabled.

To turn them back on in Word for Mac:

    1. Open Word on the Mac.
    2. On the top menu bar, select Word > Preferences.
    3. In the Word Preferences window, select Privacy (bottom row of icons).
    4. In the privacy settings, enable the option that allows Office to connect to Microsoft’s online services (for example, the setting described as:
      • “Let Office connect to Microsoft's online services to provide functionality that’s relevant to your location and preferences”).
    5. Confirm and close the dialog.
    6. Close Word completely, then reopen it and try Review > Translate again.

These privacy/connected-experience settings must be enabled for online translation and similar features to work.
